  1. TUITION & COSTS
  • Tuition Fee

Universities charge higher (usually twice) tuition fees for international students than domestic students. So Academia Sinica will subsidize the difference in fees for five consecutive years, during which international students will be paying the same tuition fees as domestic students.

Regarding tuition amount in domestic rate, it varies from one partner university to another. Still, it is generally around NTD28,000~31,000 (USD933~1,033) per semester for the first four semesters and around NTD16,000~20,000 (USD533~666) per semester for the rest of the semesters till graduation. One year has two semesters. To learn more about the tuition costs for your TIGP program, please get in touch with your program secretary.

  • Living Cost

Compared to most western countries, the living cost is not so high and slightly varies between different cities in Taiwan. The following list is an example of living costs in Taipei city which can be regarded as the highest level in Taiwan. The more frugal you are, the more you can reduce the monthly expenses.

Accommodation: approx. NT$5000~14000 /month
Generally, an on-campus dormitory (around NT$5500/month) is cheaper than off-campus housing (around NT$5000~14000/month) for a single room. An apartment with a shared space is also more affordable than a suite room.

Food (excluding luxuries and tobacco): approx. NT$6000~10000 /month
The cheapest way to eat is to do your own cooking. You can get a good meal at a reasonable price from cafeterias, café, or food courts.  Some average prices: a cup of coffee/tea in a café: NT$40~60, a sandwich at a bakery: NT$60~80, a dinner in a restaurant: NT$120~180.

Studies and personal requirements (books, National Health Insurance, transportation, recreation): approx. NT$1000~3000 /month
