The Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) Education Division in Indonesia in collaboration with Asia University and 3 Taiwan Education Center (TEC) offices in Indonesia held the 2021 Taiwan Higher Education Fair (THEF).
This online activity was attended by 63 Taiwan universities so that this time THEF broke the record for the highest number of universities compared to the previous THEF.
Deputy for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, Mon-Chi Lio, said that the Ministry of Education of Taiwan made collaboration in the field of education with Indonesia the main focus.
“In recent years, in line with the New Southward Policy by the Taiwan Government, many work programs have been carried out to promote bilateral exchanges,” said Mon-Chi Lio in his remarks at the opening of the THEF event, Monday (27/9/2021).
He explained that there are a number of scholarship programs from the Taiwan Ministry of Education for Indonesian students who want to continue their education in Taiwan, including the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) program for Indonesian students studying Mandarin in Taiwan, the ELITE scholarship program for Indonesian lecturers to continue their education in Taiwan, and still many other scholarship programs.
“Taiwan’s Ministry of Education hopes that through these programs, cooperation in education between Taiwan and Indonesia will continue to be deepened,” said Mon-Chi Lio.
Meanwhile, Representative of TETO Indonesia, John C. Chen said that the Taiwanese government is trying to make students able to go to school and people living in Taiwan can enjoy a safe life even though they are still hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Not only that, John continued, saying the affordable tuition fees and high quality of education in Taiwan are the reasons for more than 13,000 Indonesian students to continue their education in Taiwan.
“When they return to Indonesia after completing their studies in Taiwan and are forged very well by universities in Taiwan, Indonesian students will become highly talented resources who are able to contribute greatly to the academic sector and other essential sectors,” said John.
The 2021 Taiwan Higher Education Fair (THEF) activity was attended by the President of Asia University, as well as 3 Rectors from TEC partner universities in Indonesia, namely Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).
The university presentations at THEF will be broadcast live from 27 to 29 September, but video recordings of the presentations will be on the online exhibition website (www.taiwanedufair.com) for one month. Information regarding registration, available majors, Chinese language learning programs, and facilities from each university has also been displayed in full on the website. By accessing the online exhibition website, THEF participants can also easily enjoy live consultation sessions with official university representatives from 27 September to 1 October.
THEF, which is regularly held every year, is the best opportunity and platform for Indonesian parents and students to consult with universities in Taiwan, this is due to the development of the online consultation feature at THEF which also further improves the quality of two-way communication in online education exhibitions.
