Health Insurance for Foreign Student

All people who are citizens of Taiwan and have a family card in Taiwan must participate in national health insurance. Companies are arranged to pay premiums for their employees, foreign students pay flat premiums, and for those who are less fortunate or retirees get a free pass, the premium is subsidized by the government. Then for foreigner student, there is Foreign Student Insurance (International Student Group Health Insurance). Foreign student insurance of FSI is provided for foreign students who do not qualify for National Health Insurance. A foreign student who does not have a National Health Insurance or NHI is required to enroll in the FSI plan, and the fee will be included in the tuition bill. and if they have registered, foreign students will get several benefits that are not much different from NHI. Then to claim the FSI Insurance, the student can go to authorized hospitals and clinics and pay the medical bills first. Turn in the required documents as below and a signed application form to the Office of International Affairs (OIA) in each university. The OIA in each university will help you send the documents to the insurance company. After reviewing, your will receive the reimbursement directly deposited to your bank account by the insurance company. For some documents that must be prepared are:

  1. A Compensation Application Form. (pick up at OIA)
  2. The doctor’s diagnosis. (Must have the hospital’s and the doctor’s certified seals/ stamps)
  3. The original receipts, photocopied receipts need to be notarized by the hospital.
  4. A copy of your passbook cover page shows your name and account number clearly.
  5. A copy of your passport/ARC or ROC number sheet.
