CYCU Director and Project Assistant Visit Taiwan Education Center (TEC) Indonesia Yogyakarta to Discuss Mandarin Language Programs

On December 6, 2024,  Ms. Ou Te-Fen, Director of the Mandarin Learning Center at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), and Ms. Wu Shih-Min, the Project Assistant, visited Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) today to explore opportunities for expanding Mandarin language programs for students. The visit was part of an ongoing effort to strengthen academic ties and enhance language education between the two institutions.

The day began with a productive meeting between Ms. Ou, Ms. Wu, and the International Office of UMY. During this discussion, both parties explored the possibility of increasing Mandarin language offerings at UMY, as well as fostering student exchanges and collaboration in academic programs. Miss Ou shared her expertise in Mandarin education, highlighting the importance of expanding access to Mandarin courses for international students.

The meeting also focused on ways to enhance student mobility and create new educational pathways for UMY students to study in Taiwan, particularly at CYCU.

Following the discussion with UMY’s International Office, Ms. Ou and Mr. Wu visited the Taiwan Education Center, where they met with Bima, the Manager, Dinda, the Assistant Manager, and Ms. Minghua Wu, a Taiwanese Mandarin teacher at UMY. The group discussed the possibility of offering more Mandarin teaching programs for Indonesian students, including specialized courses tailored to different academic needs.

The focus of the meeting was on expanding Mandarin language programs not only for general language learners but also for students in specific fields such as business, tourism, and international relations.

The discussions focused on the importance of strengthening educational collaboration with an emphasis on Mandarin language programs. Bima, the Taiwan Education Center Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the potential for growth in this area.

The visit by Ms. Ou Te-Fen and Ms. Wu Shih-Min marks a significant step in the ongoing partnership between UMY and CYCU as well as expanding opportunities for Indonesian students who would like to study Mandarin.

As the visit concluded, all parties expressed optimism about the future of Mandarin education and the long-term potential for educational exchanges between Indonesia and Taiwan.
